Job Title: Preschool Support Staff

SUMMARY:  Supervise children in the district's community service programs. Programs include:  After School Care, Pre-School and Kindercottage.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Participate in planning and implementing age appropriate programs under the direction of the Community Services Site Leader.

 

Assist with the supervision of children and implementation of activities.

 

Assist in providing an atmosphere where children are safe and feel nurtured and valued.

 

Assist in arranging the environment so that the activities/centers are interesting and developmentally appropriate.

 

Participate in the children's activities by observing, extending language experiences, modeling desired behavior and facilitating conflict resolution.

 

Responsible for communicating positively and effectively with parents and always acknowledging and greeting parents/visitors when the arrive and leave.

 

Maintain accountability of children, making sure they are signed-in and out.

 

Responsible for tracking children going to and from the program.

 

Assist in monitoring supplies and maintenance of the facility.

 

Provide quality child care in an environment safe for children.

 

Direct activities (e.g., games, projects, arts and crafts, experiments, cooking, and story time).

 

Supervise children at all times; indoor and outdoors.

 

Maintain accountability of children, checking them in and out.

 

Assist children to and from daily activities.

 

Participate in rotation of activity areas.

 

Attend all staff meetings.

 

Attending a minimum of 24 hours of job-related training each year.

 

Responsible for following the rules and regulations of the DHS and the accrediting agency.

 

Responsible for documenting communications, phone messages, written correspondence, parental requests and concerns.

 

Responsible for reading the Site Notebook and signing in and out every day.

 

Assist with preparing snacks, projects, and cleaning.

 

Maintain on-going communication with the Site Leader and other staff.

 

Arrange aesthetic appearance of classrooms.

 

Take attendance and report discrepancies to the Site Leader or program office.

 

Maintain a work atmosphere that generates trust, collaboration and caring.

 

Communicate with parents as appropriate.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

 

One to three months related experience and/or training

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively to students, parents, and employees of the organization. Ability to communicate effectively with students who have speech and language disabilities.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
