Job Title: Support Staff, Lead

Department: Community Services

Reports To:  Community Services Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Level:  3

 

SUMMARY:  Supervise children in the district's community service programs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Responsible for the supervision of children and the implementation of activities.

 

Provide an atmosphere where children are safe and feel nurtured and valued.

 

Arrange the environment so that the activities/centers are interesting and developmentally appropriate.

 

Responsible for written activity/lesson plans

 

Meet children's needs in all areas: physical, social, emotional and cognitive.

 

Participate in the children's activities by observing, extending language experiences, modeling desired behavior and facilitating conflict resolutions.

 

To use appropriate and positive discipline and to communicate with staff and children so that discipline is consistent.

 

Responsible for communicating positively and effectively with parents and always acknowledging and greeting parents/visitors/children when they arrive and depart.

 

Maintain accountability of children, making sure they are signed in and out by authorized person.

 

Responsible for tracking children going to and from program.

 

Monitor supply and maintenance needs of the facility.

 

Attend all required staff meetings and receive a minimum of 24 hours of job-related training each year, as well as lead teacher training provided by the Parent/Staff Educator.

 

Document all training on the Professional Development Documentation Form.

 

Maintain on-going communication with parents following the "Communication Kit" and documenting monthly communication with each family.

 

Responsible for posting current activity/lesson plans, lunch/snack menus and "Look What We Did Today" board.

 

Responsible for providing information for the site's monthly newsletter.

 

Responsible for maintaining emergency information and sign-in sheets for each child.

 

Responsible for making sure billing statements, permission slips and newsletters, etc. are received by parents.

 

Responsible for following rules and regulations of the Department of Health Services and accreditation agency.

 

Responsible for documenting communications, phone messages, written correspondence, parental requests and concerns.

 

Responsible for reading the Staff Notebook and signing in and out each day.

 

Assume tasks assigned by the Site Leader, Parent/Staff Educator and /or Coordinator.

 

Maintain a work atmosphere that generates trust, collaboration and caring.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Support Staff and children.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Minimum 6 months experience in childcare or related field.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively to students, parents, and employees of the organization. Ability to communicate effectively with students who have speech and language disabilities.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
