Inter-State Studio Inter-State Studio & Publishing Company recognized Kristin Thomas, a 2nd & 3rd grade third grade teacher at Ocotillo Ridge Elementary as National Teacher of the Year.
Hundreds of teachers from across the Nation were nominated by their peers, students, parents, and administration for their exceptional work and dedication to their students and making a difference in their school community.
Individuals were asked to write an essay, thank-you, or poem about their inspiring teacher for a chance to reward them with one of three classroom grants. Marilyn Barrett, a parent of Ocotillo Ridge Elementary, nominated Mrs. Thomas.
Mrs. Barrett explains in her essay that, “Kristin Thomas is a tremendous asset to Ocotillo Ridge Elementary School. She exudes a love of teaching and earnestly cares for her students, parents, and fellow teachers. She is the quintessential professional teacher. “ Mrs. Thomas is not only involved within her classroom and school community, but also her local community. She stays busy volunteering her free time for activities such as student council coordinator, instructional team lead for 3rd grade, cognitive coach and math coach for new teachers, mobilizing Max’s Miles (encouraging children to exercise) and volunteering for several fundraising events benefiting both the school and community. Marilyn Barrett goes on to explain that Mrs. Thomas “encourages and teaches her students kindness and appreciation of others, and to show thoughtfulness.”
The Grand Prize for the Teacher of the Year award is a $300 classroom grant.
