Andrada’s Grand Opening and Library Dedication
Andrada Polytechnic High School will have a grand opening and library dedication ceremony on Thursday, August 30 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Tours of the school will start at 6:30 pm with festivities starting at 7:15 pm. After the presentations, there will a time-capsule burial in the back courtyard of the school at 8:00 pm.
The Vail School District’s newest high school, located at 12960 S. Houghton Road, officially opened its door on July 25.
With a “community college” styled atmosphere, Andrada offers students the opportunity to have a “college and career” focus through Career and Technical Education (CTE) which includes classes in Transportation Technologies, Bioscience, and Health Care. Students are able to earn certification such as an ASE or Lab Technician, allowing them to work in that career field right out of high school. Typical high school electives are replaced with coursework in their chosen field.
Andrada encourages freedom with responsibility and actively teaches responsibility, time management, and study skills. Each student has one period a day of unassigned free time to do homework in the Cyber Café, work on an independent study class in the casual Barnes and Noble style library, or work out or take a yoga or kickboxing class in the 24 hour fitness style gym.
Andrada also offers one-to-one laptops instead of textbooks and the same rigorous curriculum and AP and honors classes as the other Vail High Schools.
